I know where you are. In fact, I know the city, state and even your latitude and longitude. Don’t believe me? Read on…
I completed work today on the initial release of a plugin for the fabulously popular content management system WordPress. My plugin leverages an IP to Location database from MaxMind that enables me to learn cool geolocation details about the readers of my blog.
For example, I know that you’re IP Address is [wpgeocode_ip] and that you’re browsing this web site from [wpgeocode_city], [wpgeocode_state_code] in the [wpgeocode_country_name].
I even know that you’re connection is coming from [wpgeocode_latitude] degrees latitude, [wpgeocode_longitude] degrees longitude.
So what, you say?
Well now, that my content management system can understand your location details, perhaps I can do interesting things like tailor my content specifically for certain regions. If you’re an online merchant, perhaps you want to entice readers that are near your stores to make the trip physically by offering special coupons.
I’m tidying up the code and getting ready to submit the first version to the WordPress plugin directory. Should be available soon.
If you’re interested in the plugin and would like to test it out and give some feedback, send me an email or hit me up on twitter.
